I couldn't agree more, but I don't think any government by its nature and response to public needs has the fortitude to act "minimally". They must do the opposite for fear of seeming callous and uncaring. At this time of unprecedented caution, I have to trust our scientific and medical experts and heed their advice even if it may seem tentative and somewhat ambiguous.

But when we eventually return to more normal lives, we may look back and wonder why government had to resort to such massive quarantines. I expect part of the answer is the better vaccines and preventative measures we'll have when the next outbreak occurs, which makes me admit that the one area of government support (and spending) that should never be minimized is medical and scientific research. That's probably our most obvious failure leading up to this epidemic.
